Auld Lang Syne

Standard

Just like Harry from When Harry Met Sally, I’ve never really figured out what this song means. Each time I listen to it, depending on my mood, it’s a different message. But one thing’s certain, this version is by far my favorite. Cheers to a fantastic 2012.

Quickie: That Was Some Wind

Standard

The Chiclone was a huge disappointment, though I will say, I woke up freaking out that the window was going to bust in and a tsunami was going to form over the Lake.

But that’s not the kind of wind I’m talking about.

I’m talking about Winter Winds. By the one and only Mumford & Sons. I know I’ve written how much I love them, but last night, they FINALLY played this song in Chicago. This is the song I first heard from them and what made me totally fall for their music. It was their third show here since May (third time’s the charm!) and I went yet again in tow with an old musical buff named Dan who introduced me to the world of Ray LaMontagne and Joe Purdy. We literally had the time of our lives. And here’s some Winds for you all to enjoy. We went in costume, so once Dan sends me the photos, I’ll be sure to show you Dottie Hinson and a Boy Scout partying with the Sons.

Quickie: Van Goghs and Goes

Standard

Got this email this morning from VSL (Very Short List). It’s a daily email with something cool on the web and today’s is especially fantastic. Phillip Scott Johnson took nearly every self-portrait of Van Gogh’s, transitioned them superbly and put them to Bach’s music telling quite the narrative. I have watched this a lot this morning. A lot.

Quickie: Old People Are Hilarious

Standard

I try every week to call over to Grammy and Grandpa’s house, mainly because the pearls/gems of hilarity that come out of their mouths can last me for a good two weeks. If Grandpa ever learns how to Skype, I’m going to start a YouTube Channel with our videos.

Ben Stiller got the same idea and got his dad, Jerry Stiller, and his old comedy act partner Anne Meara to do a Stiller & Meara show on Yahoo!. Ben sits them down in a room and they talk about topics going on today. It’s hilarious. Like pee your pants funny. Here’s Anne talking about Jersey Shore.

“They’re like trolls! She has a big knob on the top of her head, like a tumor.”
