Well it’s time to officially get in the Summer mentality with a music fest. We’re heading down to the land of the Delta Blues…Memphis for Beale Street Music Festival. Last year it was 100+ degrees with a sun just punishing you all day. This year, it’s supposed to rain with temps in the 60s, but with bands like The Wallflowers, Hall & Oates, The Roots, Mavis Staples, Phoenix and The Smashing Pumpkins, our spirits will be hard to dampen.

It’s that time of year where music fests start announcing their line-ups. The leaked Lolla line-up looks unreal, Bonnaroo nearly makes me want to camp (nearly) and Beale Street will tell the world any day now.
But none will come close to this. It’s all in the presentation folks and well, Firefly Festival really delivered. In this epic mash-up, I’m not sure what I want more, tickets or this song mix.
I feel another Northeastern adventure to a state neither of us has been to is in Amanda’s and I’s futures.
Last weekend, I made another adventure down to Tennessee. This time, we opted for Beale Street, BBQ and music instead of guns, crawfish and beer, well I guess beer was still part of the equation…
This was the first time I’ve done a full festival circuit. In the past, I’ve opted for one day instead of the full three days. And I must say, Beale Street Music Fest did not disappoint. The weather held up and Mr. Sunshine came out guns a-blazin’ on Sunday (thanks for the sunburn). Day 1 and 2 were more crazy in terms of the line-up. I don’t think I’ve danced that hard ever (thanks Girl Talk and Pitbull). Day 3 was way more relaxed and chill with acts like The Civil Wars, The Head and the Heart and Alison Krauss & Union Station.
But we got a pleasant surprise on Day 2 from this little band out of Nashville called Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors. We couldn’t stop talking about them after their set and just wished for more. Here’s the song that really made me get up and cheer, Hung the Moon. Needless to say, this festival is becoming a tradition. And we’re so ready for Drew and the Neighbs to make a trip to the Windy.
Eager to get out of Chicago for a little R&R (again). This time: STL for a stopover and then Beale Street Music Fest with some gal pals from work. Already got my sunscreen, so all systems a go!
