It’s A Nice Day For A, White Dining

Standard

Thank the lord for social media. If it weren’t for CHIRP Radio‘s tweet early this week, I would have surely missed out on this. I wouldn’t have been in the kitchen on Wednesday night cooking up a storm. And I wouldn’t have been planning my day around “table and chair rental” releases.

Twenty-five years ago, Paris started Dîner en Blanc–a flash mob, white, dinner party. You bring it all. From food and dishware to tables and linens. All white. And you yourself are dressed head to toe in white. You sign up for a night of good friends, good food and good dancing at a city spot. Now, the organization boasts 24 international cities for this pop-up event. While Chicago had a similar event last year, this is the city’s first event in accordance with this group.

At 7 o’clock tonight, we’ll meet up with our “row” at a designated spot and begin the trek to an unknown location for this event. We’ll get to the destination, set up our eating area and wave our white napkins in the air for the event to begin.

New York City had their party a few days ago. And per this CNN video, 3,500 people made the list with 30,000 left on the wait list. It’s a party everyone wants a seat to.

The images speak for themselves (sparklers?!) and I for one, cannot wait. Heading over with some friends and even a long lost pal from Student Council Camp we both attended in Colorado during high school.

C’est bien!

Papes for Sale

In New York today, which of course, makes me think of one thing: The Newsies. Sadly, the play isn’t open just quite yet, but I couldn’t help and think of the newsboys when I saw this info graph on states and the news sites they turn to (seeing as most of these stemmed from newspapers…oh the dying art form).

For the most part, I’m not all that shocked, except for The USA TODAYThat reach they’ve got going on is extraordinary. And The Onion? That’s a bit unnerving…Via Flowing Data

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

Standard

Yesterday, CNN Living re-published an article from Oprah.com about dreams that you should never give up on. I’m quite the dreamer, and have an ever-expanding list that I feel guilty moving away from. Like the dream of producing a Broadway play? Pretty sure my copywriter funds are never going to be able to make that one happen. And learning a second language isn’t going to be happening anytime soon, I could barely handle it in high school and college.

So how do you know what dreams to hold on tightly to and when to let the wind carry them away?

Leigh Newman proposed a list of 9 dreams that you should never give up on. That you should continue to strive and achieve at some capacity. My personal favorite one was “5. The dream of the amazing, life-changing trip you don’t have time for.”

I’ve always been in awe of traveling, no matter where it was, just seeing a new setting and surrounding myself with complete strangers was always a thrill. And why many of my dreams involve travel. From seeing the sculpture in Dublin with my two eyes and standing underneath the Eiffel Tower with my mom to doing AIDS community work in South Africa and attending a Euro music festival that lasts three-days and requires me to camp.

But after seeing this Dream Never to Give Up On #5, I found myself reverting back to the idea of standing on every continent. To feel like I’ve touched all parts of the world and left an impact, even if it was with my feet.

So continent-exploring is back on the table. Maybe I should just turn all of my dreams into a “Around-the-World” trip to knock out more than a few birds with one stone.

Are there any dreams you find yourself holding on to?

Quickie: Thank You CNN

CNN legitimately had a post about what to do when a body part fell off. And while I’m sure they didn’t mean for this, it’s completely and utterly insane. Thankfully, someone at The Gloss saw this and wrote a pseudo-rebuttal. I cannot read this without breaking into fits of laughter. I tried to read aloud to Maggie and failed.

A few excerpts I greatly enjoy:

You should go from zero to sixty, rocketing immediately into complete and utter terror.

keep the body part with you. Don’t give it to a spouse.

I really hope I never have a body part fall off.
